Hunter Schafer claims âEuphoriaâ co-star Dominic Fike cheated on her â how she found out
Hunter Schafer opened up about what led to her split from âEuphoriaâ co-star Dominic Fike, noting that the decision was âmutually agreed upon.â
âItâs one of the cleaner breakups Iâve had,â the 25-year-old admitted during Wednesdayâs âCall Her Daddyâ podcast episode. âWe both recognized that this is not working, and we canât do this. We got to go our own separate ways.â
Despite appearing to be on good terms now, the actress claimed she found out he was cheating on her when she went through his phone.
âPart of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time,â Schafer recalled.
âIt was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you,â she went on. âIt has everything to do with that person and whatever kind of pain they are in and whatever they are dealing with.â
âIt was so, so hard because we really loved each other,â Schafer continued. âHeâs a really special person and I love his soul and everything.â
Schafer noted that she wasn’t “proud” of herself for looking at his phone, but had “a gut” feeling. The situation âfundamentally changed [her] as a person.â
The couple â who first sparked romance rumors in early 2022 after meeting on the HBO series’ second season â went Instagram official in February of that year.
However, Schafer and the 28-year-old went their separate ways in July 2023.
The model added that for a minute, âit was messy,â but for the most part, âit was a clean parting, and he has a lot to work on.â
But Schafer also recognizes her own issues, telling host Alex Cooper, âI also have a lot to work on.â
Reps for Fike had no comment.
âI think thatâs also why Iâm in this era of, I gotta figure my sât out,â she confessed. âWe had a really good thing. But there were things in our own selves that had nothing to do with each other that kept coming up in the way of the relationship.â
As for if another relationship in the public eye is in the cards for Schafer? As she put it, âI donât know if Iâll ever do it again.â
The âCuckooâ actress explained, âAt some point when youâre doing it, it gets just too hard. You can try to hide it, but Iâve also come to this point just with fame in general, where, like, people are going to say what theyâre going to say. I really donât give a sât.â
However, one thing hasnât changed: Schaferâs type.
The âHunger Gamesâ star noted that she is into musicians, but dating in that industry has a downside.
âThe thing thatâs tough with musicians â or at least with successful musicians who are doing tours and stuff â and I guess itâs the same thing with actors. They have to go off for however many months [on] tour and then Iâm working. Itâs very hard,â Schafer recalled.
âI donât know if that is, like, in my path again,â she said, âbecause Iâve done it and Iâve tried it and really tried to make it work. Itâs just very hard. At least at this point in my life, I donât have the capacity to, like, figure out how that works. Maybe someday, though. Weâll see.â
Fike, meanwhile, shed light on where he stood following the pairâs breakup last summer.
âI could make music around her, which was crazy. I was looking through songs the other day and found one that I made with her,â the â3 Nightsâ artist told the in July 2023. âI was like, âMan, that was so cool.â But the fact of me saying that â of being uncomfortable being alone â thatâs a bad thing. So I decided to just be alone for a while.â
But when it comes to working on Season 3 of “Euphoria” with his ex, Fike is excited to return.
âI have a better dynamic with everybody. I mean, well, I donât know. Almost everybody,â he told Zane Lowe during an interview for Apple Music at the time. âI think itâll be fine. Weâre all adults, kind of. Iâm trying.â
And it seems like itâs time to test that theory, as the hit high-school drama will start filming in January 2025.
âWe could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast,” executive vice president of HBO programming Francesca Orsi told in a statement. “We look forward to bringing this new season of to life for the fans.â
The network confirmed that the entire principal cast will be returning alongside Schafer and Fike, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Storm Reid, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow and Eric Dane.
The third installment’s kick-off date was delayed numerous times, with the streaming platform sharing in March that it was pushed back due to the scripts still being written by creator Sam Levinson.
A month later, Zendaya â who serves as an executive producer and plays Rue Bennett on the series â admitted that she didnât know where the series stood amid the pause.
“If it’s right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should, of course,” Zendaya told . “But it’s beyond me.”
